A research document that considers the style and theory of Japanese design disciplines.

The content of the publication summarises an overall, distinct Japanese style, across a multitude of platforms and media. Mimimalism was inspired by traditional Japanese design, communicated in the publication through a small body copy point size, and empty space.

Japanese design often includes the use raw materials. This has been reflected in the choice of stock, with two neutral tones of sugar paper. Stab stitch binding has also been used to reflect Japanese tradition and innovation.

Japanese type was included so the book could be understood by both an English and Japanese audience. Both were used to emphasize Japan’s strong links to it’s traditional culture, but also western influence.
